fundraising walk is being organised by water workers to raise charity cash.

Employees from Essex & Suffolk Water aim to attract around 600 people to take part in the ‘Waterwalk’ event on September 2nd.

It is hoped the event will raise around £10,000 for Cancer Research UK.

This is the first time that an event like this has been organised by employees and it is hoped that it will become an annual event.

Participants will follow a three-mile route around Lowestoft - from the Royal Green, along Lowestoft’s seafront and down to Pakefield before looping back to finish back at the Royal Green.

The event, which kicks off at 4pm, is open to all ages but anyone under the age of 14 must be accompanied by an adult.

Customer team leader and event organiser Dee Chapman, who is based at St Mary’s in Lowestoft said: “This is going to be a fun-filled event that will raise money for a very worthwhile cause.

“Research into cancer is a cause dear to my heart as I lost several family members to this disease in a very short space of time.”

She added: “This disease touches so many lives. Many people we know and work with have been affected by cancer and we feel it’s important that something is done for this very worthy charity.”

Paul Fleet, area volunteer manager for Cancer Research UK added: 'At Cancer Research UK world-class scientists and doctors are finding new and effective treatments for cancer quicker than ever before. Our work is funded almost entirely by donations from the public so events such as this do make a difference.”
